"I can't say enough great things about working with Matt. He trains runners as well as triathletes, many of whom are preparing for long distance events. He has a great athlete community where you can get a real feel for his very open, encouraging but also technically informed - he's always upping his own game! - and disciplined style. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he also trains people with a recognition that his athletes have busy lives, jobs, kids etc and that it all needs to fit. When we got started, he immediately identified where my existing training patterns were effective, and where I could make changes for better results. In just two months with him, I have made huge gains by training smarter and not necessarily longer. Even though he's in Boston and I'm in CT, we stay very connected on training plans, my fatigue level, optimal schedule, etc. using email, calls and a training site where we exchange information. He takes a very holistic view of his athletes, giving great advice about when to back off and when to push in order to stay healthy and keep progressing. It is a real pleasure and incredibly exciting to be coached by Matt! If you are wanting to take your training and racing to the next level, I highly recommend hiring him."

"Recently I completed my first half-ironman (Timberman) and Matt was instrumental in preparing me mentally and physically. He puts a lot of thought into planning his workouts and comes up with some creative ideas that make training even more interesting. I live in downtown Boston and don't have a lot of time for training but the bike trainer workouts and intervals he designed were great preparation for the hills on the Timberman bike course. This is just an example of Matt's philosophy of very time efficient and quality workouts. Before I met Matt I had constant ankle problems but after a run analysis conducted by Matt (complete with video breakdown and a detailed report) my running style has changed completely, the ankle problems have subsided and my running has dramatically improved. His style is laid back and encouraging which is perfect for a beginner like myself. I have recommended Matt to all my triathlon friends!"

"I have been working with Coach Matt for about two years. I came to the sport of triathlon as a marathoner looking for another endurance challenge. After doing four IM 70.3, I decided to do an IM as my 50th birthday present to myself.
Prior to hiring Coach Matt, I read every book that I could get my hands on and tried various plans; however, I was working myself into the ground. Under Coach Matt's plan, I was actually putting in less hours...but getting faster and stronger...he had me training smarter and getting the appropriate amount of rest. Also, he introduced me to some cool training tools such as a powermeter, which made those long off-season bike intervals fun!! And the Garmin 405 GPS which provides so much data for both bike and run training!!
The morning of July 26th when I went into the water for IMLP, I was so relaxed and ready to rock 'n roll as I knew I was prepared both physically and mentally. Coach Matt told me to think of this as just another long training day but one that is catered!! He had me at the peak of my performance.
Next year I am going to compete in either IMFL or IMAZ and will be using Coach Matt to prepare me."

"
As the wife of an Ironman Triathlete, I am happy to submit a testimonial on Coach Matt's behalf. I will leave the technical coaching information to those who have trained with one of the nicest people I have had to pleasure of meeting. My comments will be from an observer's point of view.
Coach was hired by my husband about two years ago, when Mike made the decision to start training for an IM. I believe that without Coach Matt's training program, guidance, and support, Mike would not have been as prepared as he was for his inaugural IM this July. Coach Matt treated Mike as if he were his only client; the amount of one on one time given to Mike was impressive. Training for an IM is intensive, but Coach Matt always made it interesting and manageable. Coach believes that training is one aspect of your life and wants to make sure that his athletes have balance in their lives.
Coach Matt was always available, to me, when I had questions/concerns. As training went on, he told me to watch for Mike's moods, work/family/training balance, etc. and if I had concerns, let him know. Not only did Mike feel prepared on the morning of July 26, but I knew that Mike would be fine out on the course.
Coach Matt cares about the athlete and the family. I will continue to recommend Coach as my husband is proof that if you follow Coach Matt's training, you, too, will compete in and finish an IM."

"Matt is the best coach for busy people who want to make their workouts really count! I have been working with him 1-on-1 for about 4 months and my triathlon performance is noticeably improved in all 3 sports. As a working mom of 3 young children with a demanding job and a husband who travels, I rely on Matt's expertise to optimize the effectiveness of my workout time. Matt schedules my workouts on Training Peaks based on information I give him about available time in any given week and we make adjustments as needed. I enter my data as I complete the scheduled workouts (including uploaded Garmin data from my trusty Forerunner 405). Matt analyzes my results and provides me with real-time feedback and suggestions for future workouts.
With Matt at the helm, I have seen great results already and have much more confidence in my ability to continue to improve as an athlete despite limited training time. We are in the process of setting ambitious goals for the off-season and I have no doubt that I will be faster and stronger by the start of the next tri season - maybe someday I'll even be at or near the top in my age-group!
Matt is very easy to work with and truly understands how life can get in the way of the ideal training plan. Matt is incredibly responsive whenever I need clarification on a workout he's scheduled or I want to discuss some other issue with him. In our weekly check-in calls, I have picked his brain on so many different topics, including nutrition, power meters, swim/bike/run techniques, race planning, analysis of race/workout performance, and various different training philosophies. I am amazed at how patient he is with all my questions! Matt is really smart and has a wealth of knowledge gained through self-education and personal experience doing triathlons. He has dealt with many of the challenges that triathletes face and freely offers insightful tips and suggestions. I can't wait to see how far I can go under Matt's guidance!"
