Were you born to run?

Many of us take for granted that we know how to run. Some believe that good technique cannot be taught; if we simply run enough miles, we will eventually figure out how to get faster and boost our economy. Maybe we should take off our shoes and run barefoot? If you've been dealing with nagging injuries, your speed has reached a plateau, or you're simply looking for a better way to make steady progress, then you've landed in the right place.

Those pathways will change slightly as we grow, but they're just as active in adulthood. The sport of running is an invitation to a explore a space with infinite degrees of freedom for forward propulsion. One foot interacts with the ground for a few precious milliseconds before we float through the air. The impact forces occur at a rate approaching 90 steps per minute and can be many times greater than our own body weight. The challenge to improving our run form is to engage the brain, rediscover the possibilities, and rebuild certain movement patterns with intention.

Much like learning a new dance, it takes a great deal of concentration to imprint the right movement patterns on the nervous system. My coaching experience shows that most athletes have a significant imbalance across the 2 halves of their body. This is either the result of a previous injury or a habit that is completely unkown to them. Video analysis is the perfect tool to illuminate inefficiencies and document progress.

During a Blueshift Run Technique session, we'll address the key elements of good run form: posture, cadence, and propulsion. From your pre-clinic video, we'll immediately identify specific drills to practice that will open the door to new progress. Changes will feel exaggerated and unnatural at first, but you'll feel inspired to complete a run technique makeover over several weeks. The technique session ends with a post-clinic video collection before a detailed analysis begins.
